The why
I have wanted to try acrylic gouache for a while now. But since I work on our dining table in the living room, I have always been afraid to make a mess. Washing the palette and brushes in our white ceramic kitchen sink scared me even more. Instead, since the beginning of my art practice, I have tried to use traditional gouache. But it is not working for me.
Therefore, I am facing my fears and starting my acrylic adventure.
I bought the Liquitex Acrylic Gouache set of 12 small pots of paint.
To relax a bit, I started with the color mixing
I purchased a Sandi Hester class: Everything you want and need to know about acrylics. Love it!
To minimize the amount of paint going into the drain, I am testing Sandi’s pot system.
I am also using a large pizza porcelain plate as a mixing surface. It is effortless to wash even when the paint is dry.
My brushes are ok, and the sink, too :)
Here are some of my first experiments.
Attempt 1: My first ever painting with acrylic gouache.
Attempt 2: I added some neocolor marks the following day. I don’t like them so much.
Attempt 3: Again, with some neocolors marks. Trying things and not liking things. I don’t know yet if I don’t want these marks or any marks. But I like the colors.
Attempt 4: I like this one the most. Still, values are not good, and brush marks are too chaotic. But overall, I like it. Colors are great.
Your work looks so good! I’ve been wanting to try these paints out too!
It’s so interesting how art is subjective but I adore your second and third paintings !
